Because I like to keep a record of my workouts for my own purposes, I wanted to go ahead and post this, even though I plan to get my recap of yesterday’s Jacksonville Bank Marathon up later today as well. I did a bit more this week of taper than I did leading up to Disney in January, and I learned the importance of this not over-tapering thing I’d been hearing about. I didn’t know what I thought about running a tempo run the week of the marathon, but it was only 4 miles total with 2 at tempo, and I guess it worked!
Tuesday: 4 miles easy
Wednesday: 4 miles with 2 at tempo. The tempo miles were 8:27/mile, and it wasn’t a phenomenal run for me. I had a stomach ache for part of it (I guess that’s what running on Christmas with the rich foods can do to you), and I seriously considered cutting the tempo and the last mile short. I gutted it out and stuck with it.
Thursday: Full Rest
Friday: Full Rest
Saturday: 2 mile shakeout at 10:00/mile. It was warm and humid and sticky, and I sweat bullets and started getting a little panicky for the marathon the next day.
Sunday: Jacksonville Bank Marathon! I did it! In the rain and the humidity, I ran a PR! I’ll share more later, but it worked out to be a redemption race in every way I hoped it would be.
