Sometimes I feel like I have a split personality when it comes to training. While part of me looks at my workouts from this week and thinks that they’re pretty fantastic, the other part looks at them and sees several flaws. I’m not trying to be obnoxious; I’m just being honest. I think this training has gone to my brain, and I also think the fact that I’m three weeks from my first 70.3 is also causing me to start questioning my training. And it’s scary because I’m not even near tapering yet! What kind of questioning will go on when taper is upon me?
The flaws I see? I rode an hour on Thursday and should have done more, I missed a 3 mile run after that ride Thursday (I had a pretty rough day at work Thursday), and my ride today should have been 63 instead of 51.
The strengths I’m relying on to reassure myself? I’ve done 3 60+ mile rides this training cycle (and two of those were on days when I didn’t have that much scheduled), and I ran 26 miles this week, which is more than a 10% step up, so it’s probably better that I didn’t run the extra 3 (that being said I’m moving those to this week to get them in).
Weekly breakdown (for more details check out my DailyMile profile):
Tuesday: Ride 1 hour with 28 minutes tempo holding HR around 150-155
Wednesday: Run 5 miles with 2.75 @ tempo around 8:20/mile
Thursday: Ride 1 hour
Friday: Run 8 miles
Saturday: Run 13 miles, walk one mile, swim one mile
Sunday: Ride 51.16 miles @ 18 MPH average
My highlight of the week of training?
The open water swim was a race after a beach 5k, and I was first female out of the water! I think there were probably 50-60 people that did the race. I also got second or third overall! It was a lot of fun, but I woke up sore this morning!
I’m so excited for Rev3 Florida on November 10th! I’m ready (I think), and I just hope I maintain this confidence going forward!
What was your workout brag of the week?! Leave it in the comments!
