The reason I bought a bike in March is mainly due to the fact that IronGirl reached out to me knowing I had been thinking about getting into triathlons; they offered me a spot in their Clermont IronGirl Sprint triathlon. I immediately responded, “Yes! Of course I’ll do the race!” Then I started calculating and thinking. I’d need a bike, the gear, a helmet, a tri suit…and the list went on. Somehow, though, I just started buying and going (much to my husband’s dismay). I did a practice triathlon with Tori in April to get ready for the May event, even though I was experiencing foot pains that hadn’t been diagnosed yet.
Around the same time, I found out my foot pains were a stress fracture and IronGirl changed their triathlon event date to September 28th. It was an odd twist in events on both fronts, but as it has worked out I’ll be able to do the race now, whereas I would have been out of my first triathlon before I started had the date remained the same.
And that September 28th event is fast approaching! I’m really thrilled for it and will celebrate Ironman Clermont as the reason I bought a bike and got into triathlons in the first place! I can’t wait to go and race my heart out as a thank you!
And you can come too! You can register online until September 23rd for the sprint or super sprint distance (the distances for each race are listed in the picture above). Use discount code IGLGBW13 to get $10 off any IronGirl race! They’ll have race morning packet pickup available! They will also have expo and on site registration.
Also of interest, Kickstart Endurance, from where I recently ordered a boat load of fuel, is hosting a tweet up at the expo.
It will be a fun way to meet up with others who are active in social media as well as gain nutrition and fueling information from Jaclyn, the founder of Kickstart Endurance. There will be lots of samples as well as prizes to be given away, and I know the event will be a lot of fun!
You can register for the free meetup with your twitter username and blog name (if you have one…not required at all) here. I’ve never been to a tweet up, but it sounds like a cool way to ask nutrition questions and just meet some new faces to chat with about our love of triathlons and endurance sports. Social media + endurance events will be an instant win for me!
Are you doing IronGirl Clermont? How did you get into triathlons?
