Though it stung a little bit walking in to a running store and not being able to run at the moment, I was really excited to go to The Running Center on Friday to meetup with Jessica, who I had been in contact with about blogging occasionally about the store and products from the store. Basically, she posted something in the Tampa Bay Bloggers group asking if anyone was interested in working with a local running store. I immediately emailed and said I was of course interested!
The Running Store is only 15 minutes from my house, and it’s a local running store that has had the same owner for the last 14 years (they’re celebrating their 14th anniversary this weekend). I was excited to work with them after listening to a podcast from The Marathon Show where Joe interviewed a local running store owner in Indiana for over an hour. He talked at the end about the importance of supporting local running stores even though things cost a little bit more because of the depth of knowledge you get when you work with someone so passionate about our sport.
When I went into The Running Center I was excited to meet Bill, the owner, and to talk to him a little bit about his store. It’s clearly his baby, as he was able to recount the change in buildings, the growth in the customer base, and the details of all of the specific certifications they have as a seller from companies like Nike and Brooks.

I was only really there to meet Bill and Jessica and to learn a little bit about what I’ll do. I’m excited to review a running product every month or two for the store. And while I was in there I made my mental plans to come back for the gait analysis from there. Though I love my Asics GT-2000s, this stress fracture has just made me want to double check that they’re the best shoes for me. After my attempted switch to the Brooks Ravenna 4, I realize how much the shoes really do matter.
And for anyone in Tampa, it’s worth noting that this week and into the weekend is their 14th Anniversary Sale! They’re doing a bunch of giveaways, and then they have 14% off any item! If I could run now I’d head in there for a pair of shoes without a doubt. Like it says on the flyer, they’re located at 14308 N. Dale Mabry Highway.
