After my mediocre recovery from my 13 miler on Saturday, I didn’t really know what to expect on Tuesday’s run. I’ll admit I had two rest days since I’m such a pro at skipping cross training (I know, I know. It’s important. I need to build core strength. Somehow I just can’t get as excited about it as my runs. But I haven’t missed a single training run. Does that make up for it?), so I thought that might help. In fact, it did. My legs were so excited with how they were feeling that my pre-conceived thought of doing some fartlek training again went from being a maybe to a definitely.
This time, though, I did them outside and did them unstructured. I warmed up with two songs and then just ran with how I felt. My first one I ran to one mid-length song and tried to stay under 8:00/mile. Then I rested until the stoplight. Then I ran around 8:30/mile for a bit and then slowed down again.
Interestingly, and I’m sure there are so many thoughts on this, once I got really moving (for me at least), my legs were recovering at a faster pace than my recovery runs are sometimes. It was like my legs shifted to the next gear, and instead of feeling like they were moving fast going in the low 9’s, it was like they were moving at a moderate pace going 8:45 or 9:15. It was very interesting mentally. I kept doing the random fartleks the whole way and varied the distance and speed each time. I can say that I probably could have done one or two more “speed” periods, but I’m really happy with this run as it stands.
I came home and snacked on these before dinner, and I must say, they’re addicting!
Have you had them before? It was so hard for me not to eat the whole bag in one sitting! I definitely demolished more than one serving. They have small bags at Starbucks (that’s where I first had them), so you can grab one there to give them a try.
Now, I need your help! In a few hours I’m making the hour and a half-ish drive down to Sarasota to go to the Trader Joe’s that opened down there a few months ago.
I see endless tweets, posts, and updates about lunches you had and items you bought at Trader Joe’s, but I didn’t start marking them because ours is so far away! Now I’m regretting it and am going back through my reader to find your favorite items. While I don’t want to buy one of everything (or maybe I do?) I want to pick up at least a few of your favorite items.
What are your must buy items at Trader Joe’s?
I tweeted (of course…twitter is the best) a little big ago asking the question and so far have heard these responses:
So my list is already growing! What should I add?
Thank you in advance for your help! I’ll share my haul when I return!
