Day 1 is: New Years Resolutions
I think every year I say that I don’t like making resolutions, but I’m not sure I really have ever made them and then not stuck to them. My main reason for making resolutions this year is because there are a lot of things that I want to accomplish and I’m committing myself to starting January 1st. I generally make goals for myself that are measurable and enable me to look back and 100% decide whether I met that goal or not, so that’s what I’m going to do with these.
#1: Like 99% of the world, I want to lose weight. Specifically, I want to lose 30 pounds. And I want to do it in 30 weeks. That’s 7.5 months and totally doable. I would obviously like to do it before then, but in the middle of July, I will look back and be able to determine if I accomplished this or not. And, with Weight Watchers meetings at school, I really have no excuses.
#2: I want to workout 5 times per week. This could mean walking, running, or using the Kinect that I haven’t bought yet but likely will in the next few days.
#3: For January, I want to complete a 30 for 30 challenge and wear only 30 items of clothing remixed over 30 days. It doesn’t include underwear, accessories, or coats. But it does include sweaters, shoes, and everything else. I also don’t get to shop for the entire month aside from gift cards that I couldn’t save otherwise.
#4: I want to cook my way through two entire cookbooks this year. That’s about one per six months. I have so many cookbooks and love cooking from them, but I do it so rarely and would like to do it more.
#5: I will save $500 per month aside from saving $100 per month for a big splurge item at the end of the year. I will spend only $100 per month on clothes and will roll over whatever money I don’t spend each month.
#6: I will eat out twice per week, including breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. I’m going to make this a January goal and then adjust accordingly.
#7: I will stop worrying about everything to the nth degree. If something happens that is out of my control or can’t be taken care of at that very time, I will wait until it comes time to worry or take care of the problem.
#8: At the end of every workday, I will have something positive to say to my friend Raequel about something that happened that day. She will do the same.
#9: I will blog at least 4 times per week, including weekends, even when I am busy.
#10: I will donate $50 to charity for each of these that I don’t do when I look back at this at the end of 2011.
Is that too much? I have to be really specific for anything to work. I made some goals for myself on November 1st, and I accomplished three of them. I am printing this list and will look at it weekly to analyze that I’m on track. I’m taking it seriously this year. Am I crazy? Can’t wait to read around and see your goals!
