Always on the cutting edge, historians and preservation scientists have now uncovered that Thomas Jefferson originally wrote subjects, instead of citizens, in one of the early drafts of the Declaration. Why is it important today? I’m not 100% sure, I play historian from time to time; that’s always the question I seek to answer. But, the dichotomy between citizen and subject shows the great difference between what we are and what we could have been. Happy Independence Day, everyone!
On a less history teacher note, happy birthday Kacey (my sister) and America! I’m enjoying my weekend at home in Chattanooga, TN with my parents and sister (if you read my last post, you’ll understand why I booked my ticket at 9:30 PM the night before I left). We’re celebrating this holiday with ribs and American flag cake.
